Project Background
This project was funded through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), which is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The funds help local communities finance important projects that build, maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our water quality. Through this funding, the Village was able to increase capacity of the sanitary sewers and replace water mains along Harrison Street. Once completed, the project helped reduce the ways stormwater enter the sanitary sewer system and caused the sewer system to overload beyond its capacity during peak wet weather conditions in the area.

Additional details:
- The main line sanitary sewer was installed in the center of the northbound lane throughout most of the project.
- Property owners and businesses were given at least 1-2 days’ notice of the interruption/temporary closure of driveways.
- This occurred when the equipment was excavating adjacent to the businesses.
- Following the placement of the pipe, the area was backfilled with gravel and access was restored by the end of the work day.
- Special arrangements were made for the Day Care Center for drop-off/pick-up when the work interrupted the driveway and parking lot.
- The new sewer service lines to each property occurred after the main line sewer is installed.
